Biography
Jan grew up in a small town in Michigan where her Dad was the town doctor and where she enjoyed an idyllic, all American style childhood. The family moved to Florida when she was 12 and ultimately settled in Winter Park. Jan's father, also a lover of opera, often sang arias at home to relax... Jan could actually hum La Boheme before she could sing "Mary had a Little Lamb". Her mother loves books, art and the symphony so off to the theater, museums and concerts they would go. Following in her parents footsteps - with a love of music and art and a strong commitment to "doing the right thing"... throw in an aptitude for science and all have converged to define who Jan is today.
Jan and her husband, Larry, are dedicated patrons of the symphony, ballet and opera as well as active community volunteers. Jan serves on several community boards but is equally committed to the real estate profession, where she has been a consistent Top Producer for the past 20 years, specializing in the Winter Park, Maitland and College Park markets.
When it comes to matching a buyer with the 'perfect home' more often than not it's the little things that can make or break a deal. Like the Italian marble in the foyer... the window treatments in the study... the way the morning light streams into the breakfast nook. Knowing what special features will connect with a particular buyer... that's an art. The 'science' part of real estate is understanding the nuances of marketing and the analysis of pricing and value. Jan knows how to gather all the information and keep clients informed throughout the process, as well as be honest and straightforward with them. Then she likes to step back and let them make up their minds without feeling pressure.
Although she's respected as a "straight shooter", Jan Walker doesn't just talk - she delivers, not only in her real estate dealings, but also in her support for the community.
"Culture is a vital part of any community - and it's a part of me" Jan notes. "I feel that it's time to step forward and "walk the walk"... to put my money where my heart is, so to speak. I want to help make a difference." Jan donates 10% of her commissions to United Arts and encourages other executives to do so as well. "My clients like the idea that when they work with me to buy or sell they, too, are supporting the arts."
Jan is very excited about her recent partnership with Hal George in ParkLand International Realty. "I'm going full circle, as Hal, I, and our associates are now in the same building in Winter Park where I started my real estate career 20 years ago with Ann Cross, Inc. Hal is a great partner, an incredible builder, a leader in his industry and highly regarded in our community. I feel very blessed in our new partnership and look forward to a bright future in real estate and in life."
